AMERICAN SPLENDOR

Last Monday, I watched American Splendor and found myself very intrigued by the film but I couldn't figure out why. After the film I thought about it and discovered that it's an enjoyable, easy to watch film about a regular guys daily struggle through life. It's always interesting to watch people act and react in a manner similar to the way you would if in the same situation.
The main character, Harvey Pekar, has been writing the comic book American splendor since the mid 70's(I think) and is somewhat of a cult hero. Like the movie, the comic follows Harvey's life and the interesting characters in it. Of note is the self-proclaimed nerd, Toby. If you have time, give this one a watch. Slowly, you'll find yourself being drawn into Harvey's world until you become part of the story also.

PUFNSTUF RETURNS

Man, was there really a call for H.R. Pufnsuf on DVD. I always thought that I was one of the millions of people who were creeped out by this show. When I was Little, I only saw the occasional rerun but it stuck with me. I'm pretty sure I had nightmares about everything in my room coming alive.

ON THE RECORD PLAYER

I'm still in the thralls of my vinyl collection. This morning I listened to a bunch of old school Billy Joel. Man, I don't care what anybody says, his material in the seventies was the shit! The man could write one hell of a piano rockin' song and some of the best ballads. I've always liked his lyrical stylings. Captain Jack, Laura, oh, and She's Always A Woman To Me, is one of my favorite songs about a woman who done a man wrong and yet the man is a hopeless romantic who still loves her. Come on, we've all experienced or maybe caused someone to experience the above situation at least once. The man hasn't written anything good for almost 20 years but you can't tell me you don't like the song Only The Good Die Young or perhaps Just The Way You Are is more your style.

AND FINALLY

For fans of the Weakerthans, the Thrills, who hail from the Emerald Island, might be a new favorite.
