Whoa!
Well I ended up going out on Halloween. I met up with some friends at the Barley Pop and then we ended up at Legends. There was one instance of craziness and that was a friend of mine that I asked to put out my cigarette in the ashtray for me because I couldn't reach it. Yeah, he put it out on his tongue.
Mark and Carla came to town Sunday night and left yesterday afternoon. It was good to see them again. I wish them luck on their travels and I hope they end up in a nice place to live.
A couple of things that I've lately found much enjoyment while listening to are the latest from Denali and the Basement Jaxx.
On Denali's latest "Instinct", the band have a darker and at times more menacing sound. I like it. I've always been a strong supporter of this band by pushing them on my customers and I'll do the same for the new album. Denali have always reminded me of Portishead only better and with real instruments. Maura Davis' vocals always make me think of birds flying in a strong wind. It's beautiful to watch them swooping and diving and just letting the wind take them where it will. Her vocals seem to have a similar effect, just light enough to float along the song until it picks up steam and then her voice swoops and dives. I highly recommend this album.
As for the Basement Jaxx latest "Kish Kash", is a treat. The album starts of with a rollicking foot stomper called "Good Luck" that sets the tone for the rest of the album. Another stand out track is the song "Kish Kash" that features Siouxsie Sioux and her voice is just as strong now as it was in the Banshees hay day. The song that J C Chasez of N'sync fame sings on is even a good track! The last track on the album Features the second of two songs sung by Meshell Ndegeocello and is the better of the two. "Feels like home" reminds me of eighties sci-fi films like "Ice Pirates" where musically they tried to sound futuristic and only managed to sound goofy. This track has a slowly meandering flow to it as well as a retro-futuristic feel and with Meshell's vocals it's a combination that actually works. This album will put you in a good mood for a night of fun!
