SUPERCENTER GET THE HELL AWAY! AN OPINIONATED RANT ABOUT THE EVILS OF WALMART SUPERCENTERS

Man I love Walmart! They treat their employees great! They do wonders for the small towns they move into, helping to support all local business' and bring loads of money into the community.

BULLSHIT!! I CAN'T STAND WALMART!

Here's an article that ran in Playboy last November. It was writen by a contributing writer named Dan Baum. I found it very interesting.

In this article a Walmart greater says she makes $15.00 an hour with benies included. Hmmm, a lowly greater makes more than people who stock the shelves and do all the grunt work and have to put up with pushy inconsiderate people all day? I know a few Walmart employees who work there and have worked there a while and make nowhere near $15.00 an hour. Most are kept at part time so walmart doesn't have to pay out for benies. All this begs the question of this woman who makes so much just for saying hello to people, who's mother or mother in law are you? I can't recall ever being greeted by the walmart greeter.

I can't wait until our downtown dries up for good. That will be great people of Minot who supported this corporate crap. You'll be thinking twice when your friends or brothers or fathers or mothers place of business shuts down.

As you can tell, I don't like this company very much.

Maybe you need to do a little more research before you so hastly post your opinions. Like the one about how Walmart keeps most of their associates part-time so they dont have to pay their associates benefits. Well, if you knew anything about the matter you would know that Wal-mart associates (part-time) are eligible for benefits after a short period of time, and some benefits even start from day one. Also, its well known that when a Supercenter or regular Walmart for that matter opens that many businesses move to that area just for the sole purpose of greater generated traffic and increased buisness....oh yeah, and they do quite well, look what has happened with growth on the south side of Grand Forks in the past ten years. You can also take a look at Fargo, they have a Lowes, Home Depot, every franchise resturaunt you can think of and a walmart supercenter in the making. Fargo is growing at an unbelieveable rate, is Minot?? Did all the lumbar yards go out of business when Menards came to town? Oh right they didnt. I dont recall your article attacking that big box retail store when they opened up. Consumers make the choices on where they want to shop, and if Minot doesnt want to give them their choices we can just watch everyone go to Bismarck and spend their money.

Okay, Anonymous, you mention the businesses that Wal Mart "attracts" to these areas that supposedly benefit the community and all the ones you mention are other large corporate entities (Lowes, EB, Home Depot, etc). These companies, in turn, pay the majority of their employees shit and, yes, they help run smaller businesses out of town because, due to massive corporate discounts, they buy goods for cheaper because they can afford to buy 10,000 copies of the new Hilary Duff album and/or 18,000 packages of Jimmy Dean's sausages. Then smaller, community based businesses, like Budget, are forced to raise prices sometimes in order to compete. I know of particular cases of Wal-Marts literally running entire small towns dry in terms of businesses forced to shut down because all of the people end up going to Wal Mart to save a few cents rather than put money back into the community. There are countless examples of this happenening, including in the articles that Dylan mentioned (yes, he did actually do some research). Of course, I suppose people are just as much to blame for this. Gotta save your 10 cents on your can of spam, I suppose.

And due to all of this corporate BS going on in America the last 20-25 years, now companies are moving jobs overseas in order to not pay Americans living wages. Unemployments rates are higher than ever. College graduates are working jobs at Starbucks. Like Chris Rock once said, "Minimum wage? What that really means is they are telling you, 'Hey, if I could pay you less I would, but it's against the law."

Not only do places like Wal Mart (they aren't the only ones) exploit the working class of this country, but they are now doing so in other countries as well as their quest for global domination seems imminent. It's capitalism overrun to a point of excess.

That's all I have to say about that for the time being, you ham and eggers!

I guess that's the problem, people are such tight-asses that they'd rather save their 6 cents than help support local businesses. And why are they tight asses? They probably work at places like Wal Mart don't pay them enough to live on. It used to be one person's salary could be enough to pay all the bills, why is it now that a husband and wife both work (sometimes more than one job) and it's still hard to make ends meet? Probably because unless they get a break they are working for a place like Wal Mart, where the managers make 100 grand or more and the avg. employee makes 6 bucks an hour...
