THE DISSOLUTION OF A MYTH?
My friend Brian emailed me an article in which an American claims to have found Atlantis. At first I thought neat! But as I read on, I began to wonder if this individual really did discover the lost cities location...That means that sooner or later all of its "secrets" will come to light and it probably won't be as romantic as we like to think of Atlantis as being. What if they weren't a "utopian society, what if they were bloodthirsty beings who sacrificed members of their own society to appease their gods just like most primitive societies and religions did. Still it would be quite interesting and possibly more insight into our human past. What if the discovery of Atlantis, which after all this time might seem bazaar, leeds to something even more bazaar?
people have all kinds of crazy ideas about Atlantis, Stonehenge, the Easter Island faces, the pyramids and maybe for good reason the vast "airstrips" that dot Peru and can only be seen from the sky because they are so big. Many people believe the works to have been done either for or by aliens because they were the only ones who could see them from the sky or the aliens were the only ones who had the capabilities to erect such monuments. Interesting this is, that most of these beliefs come not from people of this last century but from peoples throughout the centuries. But it has only been in the last century that people have actually been able to see some of these marvels from the sky.
I guess my real point is that it's more fun to not know. We can have fun with these world marvels from distant centuries built by mysterious people for reasons we as yet can only guess at. What would happen if every mystery was solved and our myths disappeared? Would we invent new ones? What would we as a people become without any fantasy in our lives?
