A PIXIES WONDERLAND

In the early nineties, the Pixies were the band everyone in the "Post Modern"(remember Dave Kendall on 120 Minutes, back when it was good, Post Modern was the term designated to fans of "different" music. Then came, oh man, "Alternative".) and punk crowds tongues. On the 120 site, check out the playlist for April 19, 1992. It starts of with Pixies "Head On". Lots of memories from those playlists. When the Pixies imploded, they threatened never to return and weathered near obscurity as bands like Pearl Jam and Nirvana claimed the title of savior's of rock 'n' roll.

A lot has happened since. Punk exploded, Nu Metal arrived and has since paved the way for hard core to become mainstream. Electronica and Emo have had their fair share of the limelight as well as alt country and now garage rock is the in sound.

So what does all this mean?

Well In the last year, I've seen an increase in Pixies fans. I think that's awesome! I've always liked them, ever since Todd introduced them to me all those years ago in his basement. Speaking of Todd's basement; Whatever happened to Scattered Few? Are they still around?

Back to the Pixies.

I find it really interesting that the average person who comes in to buy a Pixies album hadn't even hit double digits age wise when Trompe le Monde came out in 1991. What a cool word of mouth network to have kept the torch burning for so long. It's great that interest has picked up a bunch lately, enough for them to get back together. Now, if only Jawbreaker...
